Jyonohira Vineyard is located in the eastern part of the Kofu Basin, at an altitude of 550 to 600m. Compared with the flatlands of Katsunuma, fluctuations in temperature between day and night are larger and the harvest season is about one month later, thus providing ideal grape-growing conditions. The vineyard, situated on the gentle slopes, has abundant sunshine and good ventilation, which contributes to the low risk of fungus diseases. For better drainage, culverts are built wherever they are required.
In Jyonohira, we have been growing Cabernet Sauvignon by cane pruning method applied to vertical shoot positioned trellis since 1984. We have also implemented the same growing system for other European grape varieties, and practiced various experiments to successfully grow European varieties in Japan, such as canopy management, grass down the inter-row alley , selection of clones. The results have been introduced to our contracted grape growers for further improvement.

Château Mercian Jyonohira Cabernet Sauvignon, which is vinified from Cabernet Sauvignon harvested from Jyonohira Vineyard, was the first gold medal winner as Japanese wine at a prestigious international wine contest in Bordeaux. Besides, this wine has won numerous awards at many international wine competitions and attracted worldwide attention as a leading wine of Château Mercian, Japanese premium brand.
