Château Mercian Katsunuma Winery

The Château Mercian Katsunuma Winery has not only vineyards and a winemaking area, but also a wine museum, tasting counter and shop. It forms the core of the Château Mercian wineries. Now, we offer the English Guided Tours (advance reservation required), but there’s plenty to see even if you’re not on a tour so please feel free to drop in.

    500 to 600 barrels in this cellar.
    From one barrel, approximately 200 bottles can be produced.

    In order to make high quality wines in a consistent manner,
    large stainless steel tanks are lined up in a row.

  • Iwaimura Vineyard

    We are cultivating approximately 20 grapes in this vineyard by vertical shoot positioning (VSP) pruning, which is general in Europe. You can see the difference of grape varieties and age of vines.

We offer a selection of limited wines that are only available in wineries, and at the tasting counter, we have more than 20 wines by the glass at all times.

Wine Museum

Wine Museum

Built in 1904, the oldest wooden winery in existence in Japan is now open to the public as "Château Mercian Wine Museum". Here you can learn about the birth and evolution of Japanese wine and the history of Château Mercian. You can appreciate the trajectories and achievements of the predecessors who founded today's Château Mercian and see precious winemaking equipment that has actually been used here for over 100 years, the oldest bottles of Japan wine transition of labels, and so on.
